A Legendary Family

Art Garfunkel Jr. was not just born into a musical family – he was born into a legend. As the son of world-renowned singer Art Garfunkel and acclaimed artist Kathryn Garfunkel, it was only a matter of time before music found its way into his life. At just 16 months old, he stood on stage in Osaka, Japan, gently guided by his parents. This marked the beginning of a special family tradition that introduced him to the stage and spotlight from an early age.

Childhood Between Tours and Music

Art Jr. spent his childhood traveling on tour with his father, regularly singing in the background while gradually taking on longer solo parts. By the age of four, he had received his father’s mixtapes – featuring oldies, Everly Brothers classics, Doo-Wop songs, and the Great American Songbook – which he listened to countless times until he loved them. Even then, he sang duets with his father and learned to see the stage as a familiar and welcoming space.

“When I was four, my father gave me his favorite mixtapes with oldies like the melodies of the Everly Brothers and songs from the Doo-Wop era,” Art Jr. recalls. “He also gave me mixtapes of the Great American Songbook. I listened to them over and over, and eventually I loved those songs just like he did. As a child, I sang some of these songs in his shows. I always did two or three duets with my father, sometimes more.”

Between Languages and Cultures

In the 1990s, the family regularly traveled throughout Europe. The roots of his grandparents contributed to Art Jr.’s special connection to Germany, Austria, and Switzerland. In 2006, before his 17th birthday, he settled in Berlin after attending the Rudolf Steiner School in New York City, where he learned German. Here he began his own musical journey, expanding his repertoire and studying additional languages such as Russian. The emotional depth and musical traditions of the Eurasian cultural regions have had a lasting impact on his artistic development.

A Bridge Between Languages and People

Art Garfunkel Jr. reaches audiences across linguistic and national boundaries. In German-speaking countries as well as in regions with a Soviet heritage, he has built a loyal following. Whether in bustling cities or small communities, his authenticity, emotional expressiveness, and connection to language resonate everywhere.

“My fans – whether in Central Europe or Eastern Europe – appreciate that I open the door to all this beloved music in lyrics they can understand and feel. I play the music people want to hear, and it’s exactly the music I perform with passion.”
